In case of the sport of mountain biking, the rider can use the terrain on which he is riding to grant him speed. Speed can be generated without pedaling if the terrain is used properly. This technique is known as pumping terrain. It is done by driving the wheel into the terrain whenever a feature appears which has a down slope. Speed is generated and the rider can also have control over his bike because along with speed, traction is created as well. And another advantage of this technique is that in case a feature appears on the terrain which might decrease the speed, the upper part of the body, the hips, or the chest can be used to decrease the weight of the bike.
